About Bakhtawar
Bakhtawar follows a headstrong young woman (Yumna Zaidi) who refuses to let poverty, a troubled home, and a suffocating social order decide her future. After leaving her village with her mother Shareefa (Huma Nawab), she discovers that the city offers work and independence only on terms designed to keep vulnerable women afraid. Her audacious solution is to become Bakhtu, a male identity that lets her move through streets and workplaces with freedoms Bakhtawar is denied. The disguise opens doors, but it also traps her in a tense double life where every friendship, job, and encounter can expose the truth. Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz, Adnan Shah Tipu, Saqib Sumeer, and Mizna Waqas help populate a world full of danger, unlikely allies, and competing loyalties. Written by Nadia Ahmed, this socially conscious drama turns one woman's fight for dignity into a gripping study of survival, identity, and the steep price of being seen on your own terms.
Editor’s Take
Yumna Zaidi makes Bakhtawar's double life feel physical: her guarded posture as Bakhtu, the fear behind a held stare, and the relief of each tiny freedom. We were hooked when the drama kept that survival story moving at street level. Our gripe? The later stretch circles its conflicts and asks the disguise to survive more credulity than it should. Still, Zaidi's fierce, vulnerable performance gives the series its pulse. She does not just carry Bakhtawar, she hauls it uphill.
