About Bhai
Ashraf (Nauman Ijaz) rules his family's home and the surrounding neighbourhood through fear. As the eldest son and a local councillor, he expects his parents, sisters and younger brother Hammad (Affan Waheed) to bend to his wishes. Hammad, educated and gentler by nature, wants a different life from the one Ashraf has mapped out for the family. Their differences sharpen when Ashraf pursues Ifra (Maha Warsi), a professor's daughter who has recently moved nearby, while Ifra and Hammad grow close. Ashraf's jealousy turns their private choices into a household battle, leaving their mother Shakeela (Seemi Raheel) and father Manzoor (Salman Shahid) to face the fallout. The sisters face the same control over their own choices, making the brothers' rivalry a conflict that reaches every room of the house. Written by Afifa Mahmood, Bhai asks what happens when the person expected to protect a family is the one its members fear.
Editor’s Take
Nauman Ijaz makes Ashraf's swagger oddly watchable: the blustering neighbourhood boss can be funny even while his hold on the family curdles into menace. Seemi Raheel gives the noise a softer centre as a mother pulled toward all her children. Our gripe is Hammad; Affan Waheed's quiet brother gets too little room to become a real counterweight. Still, Ijaz turns Ashraf's attempts at authority into scenes you cannot easily shake. He is the engine and the warning light.
