About Tawaan
Shehroz (Emmad Irfani) and his cousin Mahnoor (Hina Altaf) grew up inside the same joint family, and the closeness they shared turned quietly into love. The night before their wedding, a car knocks their bike off the road and Mahnoor does not survive. The driver, Zaman (Asad Siddiqui), refuses to stop even as his fiancee Maryam (Moomal Khalid) begs him to go back, and he shows no remorse afterwards either. So Shehroz appoints himself the collector of the debt: the tawaan will be everything Zaman owns and everyone he loves. Maryam, a young woman who has built her life around helping people, is kept in the dark by her own family until the truth finds her, and a reckoning she never earned begins to cost her too. Rahat Jabeen's 30-episode HUM TV serial turns one hit-and-run into a long, aching argument about guilt, grief, and what atonement really asks of a person.
Editor’s Take
Moomal Khalid is the reason to watch this. Her Maryam is graceful, steady, and completely sorted, a heroine who keeps her dignity while everyone around her mislays theirs, and Emmad Irfani finally turns in the performance people had stopped expecting from him. Their chemistry is quiet rather than combustible, which suits it. Our gripe? Shehroz's mother keeps refuelling his guilt long past the point of drama, and his loyalty to a memory curdles into cruelty toward the living. Beautiful leads, exhausting martyrdom.
