About Bulbulay S2

Pakistan's longest-running sitcom household is back, and it has learned absolutely nothing. Bulbulay Season 2 returns to the same gloriously ungovernable home and the same four residents: Nabeel (Nabeel Zafar), Khoobsurat (Ayesha Omar), Momo (Hina Dilpazeer) and Mehmood Sahab (Mehmood Aslam), a family capable of turning any ordinary domestic errand into a full scale catastrophe before the first ad break. The new season moves them to a fresh setting and lets the children grow up, and Khoobsurat comes back a little more elegant with her rebellious streak entirely intact, while Ashraf Khan and Shagufta Ejaz keep the trouble coming. Writer Saba Hassan and director Rana Rizwan hold the format exactly where it belongs: one self-contained farce a week, one spectacularly bad idea, and not one sensible adult in the room to stop it. Comfort viewing with the volume turned all the way up.

Editor’s Take

Hina Dilpazeer and Ayesha Omar are still the whole engine here: Momo's cheerful nonsense and Khoobsurat's withering glamour are two of the most quotable comic creations Pakistani television has produced, and Season 2 lets them off the leash. Our gripe is the one Nabeel Zafar himself owns up to. After more than a decade and hundreds of episodes, the gags start circling familiar ground, and the weaker weeks make the critics who say it stopped being funny sound briefly right. Wobbly writing, unbeatable cast.
