About Dukh Sukh

Dukh Sukh revives the self-contained television tale through a collection of socially conscious stories about ordinary people caught between pride, duty, regret, and forgiveness. The opening chapter, “Maafi,” centres on Karam (Resham), a resilient village woman who earns her living from a home tandoor while carrying the ache of an old relationship. When a sick wandering stranger (Rashid Farooqi) collapses at her door, she chooses compassion and nurses him despite warnings from her neighbours. Her blustering fiancé Anu (Ahsan Khan), unemployed yet certain of his own importance, treats the guest as a threat and pushes Karam toward a choice she refuses to make lightly. Directed by Sakina Samo and written by Bee Gull, the story turns a modest household into a pressure chamber for questions about accountability, mercy, and the emotional cost of waiting for someone to change. Across its anthology format, Dukh Sukh favours intimate moral dilemmas over sprawling soap-opera machinery, giving each short narrative room to leave its own bruise.

Editor’s Take

Resham gives “Maafi” a raw, weathered gravity, while Rashid Farooqi makes regret feel almost physical. Sakina Samo keeps the village setting spare and intimate, and Fizza Javed’s haunting theme quietly tightens the knot. Our one gripe? Ahsan Khan’s swaggering suitor sits a little too close to familiar territory, so that strand feels less fresh than the central encounter. Still, Bee Gull’s moral unease and the anthology format make Dukh Sukh a bracing alternative to assembly-line family melodrama.
