About Ehd e Wafa

Four friends meet at a hill-station college, each pulled toward a different future: Saad (Ahad Raza Mir), who dreams of the army; Shahzain (Wahaj Ali), the proud son of a feudal political family; Shariq (Ahmed Ali Akbar), brilliant, broke, and determined to rise through sheer merit; and Shehryar (Osman Khalid Butt), the easy charmer with a quick tongue. The bonds and rivalries they forge as boys follow them into very grown-up lives, through careers in uniform, in politics, in public service and the press, and through love, loss, and the kind of betrayals that test whether a friendship can really last a lifetime. A large-canvas series created with ISPR and written by Mustafa Afridi, Ehd e Wafa is a sweeping drama about brotherhood, duty, and country, tracing four young men across the years as their promises to each other collide with the people they grow up to become.

Pakistani TV almost never centers male friendship like this, and when it does, it sings. Our gripe? The ISPR fingerprints are heavy: the patriotism tips into sermon, with the army the lone clean institution in a country it paints as otherwise rotten. Stirring, if you can take the salute.
