About Hangor S131

Hangor S131 turns one of Pakistan Navy's most storied wartime missions into a tense historical telefilm set beneath the contested waters of the 1971 war. Commander Ahmed Tasneem (Zahid Ahmed) takes charge of submarine Hangor as its crew tracks enemy warships, balancing duty, stealth and the lives entrusted to him. Around him, Executive Officer Obaidullah Khan (Affan Waheed), Lieutenant Commander Hadi (Shehzad Sheikh) and a closely drilled naval team must keep fear from surfacing while pressure builds inside the vessel. On land, Naheed (Saba Qamar) and the officers' families bring the private cost of service into view. Written by Saji Gul and directed by Saqib Khan, the film pairs military strategy with domestic stakes, framing courage as discipline rather than noise. Its claustrophobic submarine setting, rain-lashed wartime atmosphere and expansive ensemble give a celebrated chapter of naval history an immediate human scale.

Editor’s Take

Saqib Khan makes steel corridors, black water and monsoon rain feel genuinely cinematic, giving the command deck a welcome sense of contained pressure. We also like how Saji Gul lets courage register through discipline instead of empty swagger. Our one gripe? The reverent patriotic framing sometimes polishes away the rough human edges that could make the bravery hit even harder. Still, this is handsome, purposeful television with saltwater in its veins.
