About Jafaa

Jafaa follows two cousins whose marriages expose very different forms of emotional pressure. Dr. Zara (Mawra Hocane), an accomplished gynecologist, marries the polished but volatile Hassan (Mohib Mirza), whose charm gradually gives way to control, gaslighting and violence. Andaleeb (Sehar Khan), a spirited college student, sees her relationship with classmate Moiz collapse under family and class pressure before entering an arranged marriage with the older, reserved oncologist Numair (Usman Mukhtar). As both unions test familiar ideas about love, patience and duty, the women confront families more interested in preserving appearances than hearing uncomfortable truths. Samira Fazal’s drama connects domestic abuse, mental health, infertility, reproductive pressure and the uneasy compromises inside age-gap marriage. Zara’s professional confidence cannot shield her from harm, while Andaleeb and Numair must decide whether affection can grow without trust. Together, their stories ask what spouses owe one another, and when endurance becomes self-erasure.

Editor’s Take

Mawra Hocane is Jafaa’s clear conscience. She lets Zara’s confidence crack by degrees, making every apology and gaslit silence sting, while Mohib Mirza keeps Hassan frighteningly plausible. We admire a prime-time drama that names domestic abuse without hiding behind romance. Our one gripe? Once Zara’s arc loosens its grip, the stretched Andaleeb and Numair track drains the urgency and leaves the finale lopsided. Powerful at its best, frustrating when it forgets its strongest story.
