About Sar-e-Rah

When her father’s heart attack leaves the family finances in crisis, Rania (Saba Qamar) takes the wheel of his battered taxi, defying relatives who believe driving is no work for a woman. Karachi’s streets soon bring her passengers whose struggles echo her own fight for dignity. Dr. Muzna (Sunita Marshall) faces the blame for a marriage without children, Rameen (Saboor Aly) battles a family determined to police her ambitions, Sarang (Muneeb Butt) seeks acceptance for an identity society refuses to understand, and Maryam (Hareem Farooq) pushes against the limits placed on a working woman. Written by Adeel Razzaq, the six-part miniseries links these stories through Rania’s cab, turning each journey into a compassionate look at dowry, infertility, gender prejudice, inheritance and the cost of respectability. As Rania becomes her family’s provider, she also discovers that independence is not simply earning money. It is claiming the right to choose one’s own road.

Editor’s Take

Saba Qamar can turn a taxi ride into a small revolution with one lifted chin. Her Rania gives this anthology its pulse and its humor. We love how Adeel Razzaq’s messages arrive through people rather than lectures, and how six episodes refuse the usual serial bloat. Our one gripe? Some supporting arcs are squeezed so tightly that their resolutions feel gift-wrapped. Even so, Sar-e-Rah proves issue-based television can be warm, brisk and genuinely hopeful.
