About Kabhi Kabhi

Ariz (Ahsan Khan) is the calm, focused son who carries an entire household on one salary. Ishal (Mehwish Hayat) is the boisterous younger daughter of a very rich man (Javed Sheikh), studying abroad and desperate to escape the mechanical life arranged for her back home. Her father has already chosen Shahraiz: wealthy, educated, thoroughly spoilt, and pushed on her by a domineering brother-in-law, Rehbar (Alyy Khan). Ishal and Ariz marry anyway, and the class line they crossed follows them straight indoors. Ariz's mother (Bushra Ansari) and sister make the new bride pay for where she came from, while her father keeps working to pull his daughter back out of a middle-class house he thinks is beneath her. Anjum Shahzad directs Sameera Fazal's script across 28 episodes on ARY Digital, with Alycia Dias carrying the title track.

Kabhi Kabhi opens exactly right: the casting is shrewd, the characters land without fuss, and Ahsan Khan's quiet steadiness plays beautifully against Mehwish Hayat's live-wire Ishal. Our gripe is everything after. Across 28 episodes the script lets characters lurch into brand new convictions with no setup, and the late stretch reaches for shock devices this class-divide story never needed. A terrific first impression, an exhausting last one. These leads deserved a better back half.
