About Laapata

In a close-knit working-class neighbourhood, cousins and childhood companions Shams (Ali Rehman Khan) and Falak (Sarah Khan) have grown up in neighbouring portions of the same family home. Falak is sporty, ambitious and clear-eyed; Shams is charming but forever searching for shortcuts. Their familiar romance seems destined for marriage until Shams's reckless gamble leaves him owing money to a dangerous police officer and then missing without warning. Hovering at the edge of their bond is Geeti (Ayeza Khan), a shrewd TikTok celebrity from nearby who wants Shams for herself and knows exactly how to turn attention into leverage. Written and directed by Khizer Idrees, Laapata folds a love triangle into a mystery, setting social-media performance, family expectations and class aspiration against the consequences of one terrible decision. Fast-moving, playful and increasingly tense, the drama lets its romantic rivalry darken into suspense while keeping the fate of its tangled relationships tantalisingly out of reach.

Editor’s Take

Laapata works best when Ayeza Khan turns Geeti's influencer sparkle into something sly and unsettling, while Sarah Khan gives Falak a grounded counterweight. Khizer Idrees keeps the early romantic triangle moving with a light, brisk touch, and we happily follow its shift toward trouble. Our one gripe? The false-harassment beat is a clumsy, sour provocation that deserved far more care. Still, the performances give this 22-episode romance-thriller a deliciously unpredictable pulse.
