About Udaari

Udaari moves between rural Mirpur Khas and Lahore, weaving together two families divided by class but connected by courage. Meera (Urwa Hocane), the daughter of spirited wedding singer Sheedan (Bushra Ansari), dreams of carrying her voice beyond the prejudice that shadows their profession. In the city, musician Arsh (Farhan Saeed) sees her talent and opens a door to a larger world. Alongside that hopeful journey, Sajida (Samiya Mumtaz) is trying to build a secure home for her young daughter, but her new husband Imtiaz (Ahsan Khan) brings a danger she cannot yet see. Written by Farhat Ishtiaq, the drama brings music, women's economic independence, class barriers, and the silence surrounding child sexual abuse into one compassionate story. Its heaviest subject is handled through women who work, protect, create, and refuse to be reduced to their suffering, making Udaari both gripping family drama and a stirring portrait of resilience.

Farhat Ishtiaq and director Ehtisham-ud-Din pull off a difficult balancing act: Udaari confronts child sexual abuse without turning its women into helpless symbols, while Bushra Ansari and Samiya Mumtaz give its village world grit, warmth, and nerve. We especially love how music makes resistance feel lived-in rather than preachy. Our one reservation? The jumps between the buoyant performance track and the darker household story can feel abrupt. Still, this is purposeful television with a pulse.
