After her father dies, Shijrat (Neelum Muneer) and her mother move into her maternal uncle's home, where grief is soon compounded by a household ruled by convention. Determined to honor her father's dream of higher education, Shijrat refuses to shrink under the restrictions imposed by her conservative cousin Afaaq (Syed Jibran). At university she meets Sanaan (Sami Khan), a classmate carrying the weight of his own recent tragedy and the humiliation it has brought him.
