About Neem

Zimal (Mawra Hussain) is a philanthropist by instinct, a young woman who cannot walk past a child kept out of school and do nothing about it. Her mission is simple to state and brutal to attempt: education for everyone in her community, regardless of what a family can pay. The obstacles arrive from every direction. A feudal establishment guards its grip on the land, funding never stretches far enough, and Zimal carries personal wounds that keep pulling her off course. Her path crosses Ashhad's (Ameer Gilani), and what grows between them has to survive the weight of family expectation and duty. Set against the mountains of Pakistan's north and written by Kashif Anwer, Neem is a social drama about a woman who refuses to accept that some children simply get less, and about what that stand costs the person making it.

Editor’s Take

Mawra Hussain makes Zimal's stubbornness look like oxygen, and her push and pull with Ameer Gilani's Ashhad is what kept the audience invested. Shehzad Kashmiri shoots the northern valleys with a patience most serials never bother to find. Our gripe? It preaches. The second-marriage track hijacks the education story Neem kept promising to tell, and the message sits on top of the drama instead of inside it. Gorgeous, big-hearted, and talking over its own best idea.
