About Parizaad

Parizaad (Ahmed Ali Akbar) is a soft-spoken young man with a poet's heart and a poor man's pocket, born with dark skin in a society that never lets him forget it. His name means born of a fairy, and the irony follows him everywhere: mocked for his looks, overlooked in love, and underestimated at every turn. Adapted by Hashim Nadeem from his own bestselling novel, Parizaad follows his unlikely passage through the worlds that take him in, from college corridors and unrequited crushes to the orbit of a powerful, dangerous benefactor (Nauman Ijaz) who sees something in him that others miss. Wealth, influence, and heartbreak all find him, but the question that drives the story is whether any of it can give a man peace with himself. Directed by Shahzad Kashmiri, this is a rare, novelistic character study about self-worth, colorism, and the cost of belonging.

Editor’s Take

Ahmed Ali Akbar doesn't play Parizaad so much as disappear into him: the downcast eyes, the stooped walk, the voice that shrinks to a whisper, it's the kind of performance that rewrites a career. Here is that rare thing, a prestige character study with the soul of a poem. Our gripe? The finale trades the novel's harder truths for a tidy, crowd-pleasing bow and burns half its runtime on recap. A masterpiece that flinches only at the finish.
