About Pinjra
Pinjra turns the family home into a pressure cooker where love is measured in grades, obedience, and comparison. Khadija (Hadiqa Kiani) and Javed (Omair Rana) want the best for their three children, but their rigid parenting leaves each child carrying a different burden. High-achieving Azaan (Aashir Wajahat) is pushed into adult responsibility, Abeer (Aina Asif) chafes against constant scrutiny, and sensitive Abaan (Ahmed Usman) retreats into art when his talents are dismissed. Across town, Khadija's childhood friend Wajiha (Sunita Marshall), a divorced working mother, offers her children a more open and trusting home. The contrast forces both families to confront how deeply adults' fears and expectations shape young lives. Written by Asma Nabeel, this thoughtful family drama explores sibling rivalry, parental mistrust, and the damage caused when discipline replaces conversation. It is an emotionally charged invitation to listen to children before a home built on care begins to feel like a cage.
Editor’s Take
Pinjra's sharpest choice is letting the children feel like people, not lessons. Ahmed Usman's quietly cornered Abaan and the tension inside Khadija's home make Asma Nabeel's parenting critique sting, while the ensemble keeps the message human. Our one gripe? The opening time shifts are briefly murky, and Wajiha's household can look a shade too perfect beside the chaos. Still, this is socially conscious television with a pulse, and we gladly opened the cage.
