About Sang-e-Mah

In the mountain village of Laspiraan, Hilmand Khan (Atif Aslam) lives in the shadow of his father's death and nurses a dangerous suspicion about his stepfather, the formidable tribal elder Haji Marjaan (Nauman Ijaz). His pursuit of the truth entangles a family already divided by old grief: Zarsanga (Samiya Mumtaz) carries secrets of her own, while Hikmat (Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz) and Gul Meena (Hania Aamir) struggle to protect their love from inherited rivalries. When journalist Sheherzaad (Kubra Khan) arrives to investigate ghag, a coercive custom used to claim women for marriage, private wounds collide with the village's public code of honor. Written by Mustafa Afridi with echoes of Hamlet, Sang-e-Mah turns revenge, forbidden love, and buried guilt into a brooding ensemble drama. Atif Aslam brings a striking stillness to his television debut, surrounded by commanding performances from Nauman Ijaz, Sania Saeed, Samiya Mumtaz, and Omair Rana.

Editor’s Take

Atif Aslam's hushed, watchful Hilmand is a magnetic television debut, but Nauman Ijaz and the formidable women around him give Sang-e-Mah its real dramatic weight. Mustafa Afridi's dialogue lands like poetry, and Saife Hassan makes Laspiraan feel both beautiful and claustrophobic. Our one gripe? The finale rushes its emotional reckoning just when the women's stand against ghag should own the spotlight. Still, this is ambitious prime-time storytelling with bruises, backbone, and a memory that lingers.
