The Story Behind Tawaan OST
Tawaan OST is the title song for HUM TV's 2018 serial about grief, guilt and the human cost of revenge. Zohaib Hassan performs Sabir Zafar's words over Waqar Ali's composition, framing Shehroz's loss of Mahnoor and his decision to make Zaman pay through the innocent Maryam. The drama was written by Rahat Jabeen and directed by Syed Wahb Jafri, and the official soundtrack arrived on HUM TV's channel in July 2018. Its compact, restrained presentation keeps Hassan's solo vocal at the center, matching a story in which sorrow hardens into punishment before compassion can return. The song turns the serial's central idea into an emotional question: when one life has been taken, who should bear the price?
Meaning & Translation
Tawaan is an Urdu word for a penalty, compensation or price paid for wrongdoing. In the song, that idea is emotional rather than financial: grief becomes a debt, and love is made to carry the cost of another person's guilt. The remembered past, suggested by the phrase “yaadon ka ye saamaan” (this collection of memories), is all the grieving voice seems able to hold. The theme asks whether revenge can settle such a debt, or whether it only transfers pain to someone innocent. Its central movement is from loss and accusation toward remorse, making the title both a demand for payment and a warning about treating a person as payment.
