About Umm-e-Haniya

Romi (Neelam Munir) refuses to let a conservative household shrink her ambition to play cricket at national level. She earns a place in board training, only for an injury to force her home and away from the future she had fought to claim. Then she finds an abandoned newborn at the same playground that once represented her dreams. Taking the baby in turns a personal act of compassion into a family storm, testing her engagement, her standing with her in-laws, and the limits of what her community will forgive a woman for choosing on her own. Daniyal Afzal plays Rohan, whose grief and search pull the story toward mystery, while Hashim Butt brings warmth as Romi's supportive father. Written by Kishore Asmal, Umm-e-Haniya pairs a sports dream with a thornier question about motherhood, duty, and who gets to define a woman's future. Its strongest hook is Romi herself: stubborn, tender, and unwilling to abandon either her convictions or a child who needs her.

Editor’s Take

Neelam Munir gives Romi a lovely mix of steel and softness, but Hashim Butt nearly steals the serial as the father whose quiet support makes their scenes glow. The writing keeps an unusual premise believable even as the story edges into thriller territory. Our gripe is the repeated moping and circular debate around the baby, which briefly dulls the momentum. Still, this is socially minded melodrama with a pulse, not a lecture.
