About Woh Mera Dil Tha

Woh Mera Dil Tha is a story about two families whose conflicts land squarely on their children, and about parents who love so protectively that they end up doing the damage themselves. Naina (Madiha Imam) is quietly in love with her cousin Arham (Furqan Qureshi), but when the family closes ranks Arham will not take a stand, and he runs, leaving her at the mercy of her parents. Fayyaz (Behroze Sabzwari) and Raheela (Shaheen Khan) watch their daughter this closely precisely because they eloped in their own youth and cannot bear to see her repeat it. Then there is Zaid (Sami Khan), the mutual friend both of them trusted to smooth things over, who only gets tangled deeper until a forced nikkah binds his life to Naina's. Faiza Iftikhar's 24-episode serial asks whether two people pushed together in bitterness can find their own way to understanding.

Sami Khan's Zaid is the reason this one works: you start out wanting him thrown out of the story and end up quietly rooting for him, and Madiha Imam matches him beat for beat. Faiza Iftikhar writes her women with real warmth, which is rarer than it should be. Our one gripe? The supporting bench never rises to the leads, and the truth about Arham is left sitting there, never properly aired. Flawed family, terrific couple.
