About Working Women

Noshi (Maria Wasti) has turned her own home into a women's hostel, and every resident who moves in arrives carrying something she would rather not explain. Sadia (Anoushay Abbasi) is a TikToker who has stopped believing in love. Rosie works a factory shift and cannot decide whether she trusts her fiance. Amber left a comfortable life behind after being deceived in love. Hashmat carries a singer's voice and a tough inner soul. Around them, TT, a Muslim boy, is quietly falling for Ayesha, a Hindu girl. Noshi insists she does not need a man to get anything done, a position complicated by Zulfi (Adnan Jaffar), who is married, permanently present, and convinced that women require his guidance. Written by Bee Gul and directed by Yasra Rizvi, who also stars, Working Women is an ensemble portrait of women who keep their own front door key.

Editor’s Take

Bee Gul writes women who talk like women, not like arguments, and Yasra Rizvi shoots them like they matter: overhead in a crowded hostel room, candlelit, warm. Anoushay Abbasi's Sadia walks off with every scene she is in. Our gripe? Six or seven lives in sixteen episodes means some residents get a sketch where they deserved a chapter, and Zulfi's crisis of masculinity soaks up oxygen the hostel needed. Still one of the bravest things Green has aired.
