About Zinda Dargour

One night before her wedding, burglars break into Aliya's home and take everything: her happiness, her dignity, and, in the eyes of everyone around her, her right to a normal life. Saniya Shamshad plays her as a girl who survives the break-in and then has to survive the morning after, when a whole society decides what she is now worth. Samina Ejaz's ARY Digital serial, directed by Badar Mehmood, argues that even parents who stand by their daughter cannot outvote a neighbourhood, and that burying a woman alive no longer requires a grave, only enough silence and enough shame. Noman Ijaz is Dr. Mustafa, her love interest and the rare person who sees Aliya rather than the rumour attached to her, while a second thread follows another young woman, Sonia, caught in the same arithmetic. Waseem Abbas, Laila Zuberi, Ismat Zaidi and Ali Abbas round out the world that judges them.

Editor’s Take

Samina Ejaz builds the whole thing around one merciless idea, that a woman can be buried without a shovel, and Saniya Shamshad carries it without ever begging you to pity her. Reviewit filed it with an ARY 2015 slate nobody was watching, and fair enough, it never became appointment television. But our numbers say the people who did find it stayed: the finale is the biggest episode of the run, more than double the premiere. Quiet drama, loud point.
