The Story Behind Aakhri Station OST
The 2018 title song for Aakhri Station turns Amjad Islam Amjad's poem "Mujhay Apnay Jeenay Ka Haq Chahiye" into the musical statement of Kashf Foundation's seven-part drama about women confronting violence, stigma, depression and displacement. Arshad Mehmood composed the piece, with Tahira Syed and Roshaneh Zafar carrying its sung passages and Shabana Azmi contributing a special spoken rendition. That exchange between melody and recitation gives the soundtrack the shape of a collective appeal rather than a conventional romantic theme. It mirrors the series' train compartment, where seven strangers gradually recognize one another's struggles. Written by Amna Mufti and directed by Sarmad Khoosat, the drama places women at the center of their own survival stories, and the song distills that purpose into a direct claim for dignity, agency and hope.
Meaning & Translation
Aakhri means "last" in Urdu, so the title is "The Last Station." The song treats that destination as more than the end of a train journey. It becomes the point at which women pushed to the edge insist on choosing what comes next. The central phrase, "mujhay apnay jeenay ka haq chahiye," expresses a demand for the right to live one's own life. Across the drama's different stories, that demand covers safety, respect, freedom from stigma and the power to make personal decisions. The words do not promise that pain disappears at the final stop. Instead, they turn survival into a shared assertion: each woman deserves dignity, support and authorship over her future.
