The Story Behind Bijli
Aima Baig's "Bijli" is a 2020 Velo Sound Station reinvention of Naheed Akhtar's filmi song "Bijli Bhari Hai Mere Ang Ang Mein," originally heard in the 1976 film Koshish. For the Episode 4 performance, producer Sarmad Ghafoor rebuilt the track around a faster electronic pulse, while Bilal Maqsood contributed an additional melody and Anwar Maqsood supplied fresh lyrics. The arrangement keeps the original chorus, credited to composer M. Ashraf and lyricist Masroor Anwar, then gives it a glossy pop frame suited to Baig's animated delivery. The result plays less like a reverent archival cover and more like a stage-ready update, with a charged refrain and brisk dance beat carrying the live-studio energy of Velo Sound Station.
Meaning & Translation
"Bijli" means electricity or lightning. Here it becomes a metaphor for the singer's confidence: she feels a current in every movement and knows her presence can electrify the room. The central image is playful rather than dangerous, turning attraction into heat, motion, and sudden illumination. As the song moves from its familiar refrain into newer verses, the narrator presents herself as the source of that energy, not merely its object.
