Sahir Ali Bagga composed the title song of Baandi and sings it with Beena Khan, but its words come from the woman who wrote the serial itself. Hum TV credits Asma Nabeel on one line, Writer and Lyricist, and that double duty is why the song and the story agree so exactly.

The drama ran 33 episodes on Hum TV from 14 September 2018 to 3 May 2019, directed by Syed Ahmed Kamran for Moomal Entertainment and MD Productions. It is set in rural Sindh, where a debt-bound farm worker's daughter (Aiman Khan) is sent into service in a wealthy household, and the song went up on the channel thirteen days into the run. At two minutes thirty-nine it holds a single movement: an invocation of God's names, then a girl talking to her mother.

Meaning & Translation

Baandi is Urdu for a bondmaid, a woman held in service with no claim on her own life, and the serial means it literally: a debt is inherited, and a daughter is handed over to settle it. The song puts that condition in the first person. It opens by calling on God as protector, as most generous, as lord of majesty, three names for someone with nowhere else to appeal. Then it drops the register and turns to a mother, maye ni maye, mother oh mother, look what has become of me. The two addresses sit back to back, and that pairing is the argument: the prayer is formal, the complaint is private, and a girl with nothing needs both.
