The Story Behind Baddua OST
Baddua OST is the title theme of ARY Digital's 2021 drama Baddua, released as the serial introduced Abeer, Junaid and a story of desire turning into betrayal. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan leads the recording with Sehar Gul Khan as the featured vocalist, while Asim Raza wrote and composed it. The two-voice design gives the song a dramatic pull: a wounded lead is answered by a second vocal presence, matching a story in which romantic choices leave damage across several lives. ARY's official upload appeared on 27 September 2021, one week after the drama began airing. Rather than retelling the plot scene by scene, the OST distils its emotional engine into accusation, grief and the fear that a broken heart's prayer can become a curse.
Meaning & Translation
Baddua means a curse or an ill wish, the opposite of a dua, a prayer offered for someone's good. Here the word captures the moment love curdles into hurt. The beloved once seemed worthy of worshipful devotion, but betrayal turns that same attachment into a plea born from a broken heart. The song does not present the curse as simple revenge. Its Urdu verses carry disbelief and accusation, while the Punjabi refrain about being struck by an evil eye widens the feeling into misfortune and emotional ruin. At its core, the narrator is asking how someone once held so close could become unfaithful, and whether the pain they caused will return to them.
