The Story Behind Badshah Begum OST
Hum TV released the title song of Badshah Begum on 24 February 2022, a week before the serial reached air on 1 March. Suhaib Rashdi composed and produced it, and it is sung by Ali Pervez Mehdi, the voice behind Gal Sunn in Coke Studio 2020, who takes it in a trained, unhurried register rather than pushing for a hook.
The words are by Saji Gul, who also wrote all 31 episodes, and that shared authorship is the song's real advantage: the same pen that built Peeranpur, a shrine town where faith and feudal power share one throne, also set out the show's argument about love in a handful of lines. The refrain, yeh ishq hai daadha, arrives before any character does, and the serial spent until 18 October 2022 proving it.
Meaning & Translation
The title Badshah Begum names the throne the serial fights over: badshah is king, begum is lady, and together they make a matriarch who rules in her own right rather than beside a man. The song carries that idea into its language about love.
Its opening phrase, yeh ishq hai daadha, uses a Punjabi word for something mighty and unyielding, so the line lands nearer to this love is a hard master than to anything tender. Saji Gul writes ishq as an inheritance rather than a choice: it arrives with the weight of a title, expects submission, and charges the person who accepts it. That is the show's argument in miniature, sung before a single character appears.
