The Story Behind Bandeya

Bandeya is the title song of Parwarish, the ARY Digital family serial that ran from 7 April to 11 August 2025 across 36 episodes. Big Bang Entertainment produced it for Fahad Mustafa and Jerjees Seja, Meesam Naqvi directed, Kiran Siddiqui wrote it, and Samar Jafri and Aina Asif carried the leads.

The song reached listeners before the drama did. ARY released it as a single on 3 April 2025, four days ahead of the premiere, with Shafqat Amanat Ali singing, Ammar Hussain supplying the words and Atif Khan producing. Two versions circulate: the full audio master runs 5:40, while the on-screen video song is a 2:54 edit cut to the serial footage. Shafqat, Patiala gharana trained and once the voice of Fuzon, sings it as a plea rather than a lament, which is what a story about parenting and its costs asks for.

Meaning & Translation

Bandeya is the vocative of banda, the Urdu and Punjabi word for a human being, a mortal, one of God's creatures. To call out O bandeya is to do what a Sufi verse does when it stops a stranger in the street: it is the address a fakir uses, and the one a person turns on their own soul in a bad hour.

Ammar Hussain writes from inside that tradition. ARY framed the release as a cry of the soul, a whisper of the past and a promise of resilience, and the title is doing all three at once. It names the listener as someone who has been through something, then gently declines to let them look away.
