The Story Behind Ye Dunya

Ye Dunya brought Karakoram together with rappers Talha Anjum and Faris Shafi for the seventh release of Coke Studio Pakistan's Season 14 in February 2022. Curated and produced by Xulfi, with Sherry Khattak sharing composition, arrangement and production duties, the track turns anxiety about proving oneself into a collective act of reassurance. Adnan Dhool, Xulfi, Anjum and Khattak shaped the song narrative, while Dhool, Anjum, Shafi and Xulfi wrote its words. The arrangement pushes Urdu rap against a dense rock frame of electric guitars, drums, bass, synths and orchestral strings. Sherry Khattak supplies the raw sung cry at its center, and the rappers answer from contrasting angles, making the performance feel less like a contest than a charged conversation about carrying on.

Meaning & Translation

Ye Dunya means "this world" in Urdu. The song looks at a world that keeps moving regardless of any one person's pain, then asks what remains when ambition, approval and constant self-proving fail to quiet fear. Its voices do not offer an easy cure. Instead, the sung refrain gives loneliness a raw shape, Talha Anjum answers with reflection, and Faris Shafi cuts through with blunt, restless energy. Together they turn private anxiety into shared experience. The central reassurance is that vulnerability does not make someone weak or uniquely broken: compassion and companionship can make an indifferent world easier to face.
