Alif is the title theme for Geo Entertainment's 2019 spiritual drama of the same name, adapted from Umera Ahmed's novel. Shuja Haider wrote, composed and produced the recording, sharing the lead vocals with Momina Mustehsan. Ahsan Ali contributes the alaap, while Shany Haider handles additional programming. The song mirrors the drama's movement between worldly desire and spiritual reckoning: intimate solo passages expand into a communal, devotional refrain around the single letter alif. Meaning & Translation
Alif is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet and, in the song, a symbol of Allah, the singular source placed above every other attachment. The repeated idea of "alif bas," meaning "only Alif," turns one letter into a spiritual command: do not make the self an idol, give love to people, but reserve ultimate devotion for the divine.
