The Story Behind Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai OST
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performs the title song for ARY Digital's Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai, a 2017 drama about the value a family places on daughters. The broadcaster published this five-minute OST on its official channel in October 2017. Faiza Iftikhar wrote the serial, and Badar Mehmood directed it. Their story centers on Naheed, played by Saima Noor, whose husband Sadiq rejects her after the birth of their fourth daughter and marries his late brother's widow, Anila. Billed alone on the recording, Khan carries a title whose words should announce a celebration. Set against Naheed's treatment, that greeting becomes the drama's pointed question: why does this family refuse to welcome a girl?
Meaning & Translation
"Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai" means "Congratulations, a daughter has been born." In ordinary Urdu, it is a greeting of joy for a new child. The drama gives that greeting a painful double edge. Naheed has another daughter, but Sadiq sees the birth as a failure because he wants a son. The title therefore asks the listener to hear the gap between what a family says and how it treats a girl and her mother. Beside Naheed's struggle, the OST's central question is whether those congratulations can be sincere, and whether a daughter can be welcomed without qualification.
