The Story Behind Paisay Da Nasha

Paisay Da Nasha brought Bohemia's Punjabi rap into Coke Studio Pakistan's fifth season in May 2012. Written and arranged by Bohemia and produced by Rohail Hyatt, the performance placed his urgent, tightly wound flow against a fuller studio-band sound. It appeared in Season 5's opening episode, where the arrangement mixed rap with funk and pop influences instead of treating the track as a conventional hip-hop cut. Bohemia framed the piece as a question aimed partly at himself: does the pursuit of money create any real happiness? That tension gives the recording its shape. The groove stays propulsive, but the words keep returning to loss, conflict, and the human cost of obsession, turning a compact rap performance into a pointed social reflection.

Meaning & Translation

The Punjabi title "Paisay Da Nasha" means "the intoxication of money." Bohemia treats wealth not simply as an ambition, but as a drug that can distort judgment, relationships, and a person's sense of worth. The narrator looks at a world shaped by competition, danger, and restless pursuit, then asks whether any of it produces lasting happiness. Death and separation sharpen that question: people often recognize someone's value only after that person is gone. The song's warning is therefore less about money itself than about surrendering one's life to its chase. Its hard-edged rap delivery carries frustration and bravado, while the underlying message remains sober, urging listeners to measure success against loyalty, peace, and human connection.
