The Story Behind Pasoori Remix
Released by Coke Studio Africa in August 2022, Pasoori Remix turns the Pakistani hit into a three-country collaboration. Ali Sethi carries the original melody, joined by Egyptian rapper Marwan Moussa and Nigerian singer Reekado Banks, whose parts bring trap and Afrobeats colors to the track. The recording builds on the composition by Sethi and Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan and lyrics credited to Sethi and Fazal Abbas. Rather than simply speeding up the Coke Studio Season 14 original, the remix reshapes its tension through a compact exchange of voices: Sethi opens and closes the song, while Moussa and Banks take over its middle. The result extends Pasoori's border-crossing idea into the performance itself, connecting Pakistani, Egyptian, and Nigerian pop languages in under three minutes.
Meaning & Translation
Pasoori is a Punjabi word for a troublesome tangle, an apt title for a song about love obstructed by distance and rules. Its central feeling is defiant longing: separation may be imposed, but desire keeps looking for a way across the barrier. In this remix, Ali Sethi preserves that emotional core while Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks widen the conversation through new languages and rhythmic identities. The changing voices make the conflict feel less private and more universal. Instead of resolving the lovers' predicament, the song transforms frustration into motion, suggesting that music can cross the very borders and prohibitions that the words resist.
