Pere Pavandi Saan brings Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Sindhi poetry into Coke Studio Season 5 through Tahir Mithu’s resonant lead and Rohail Hyatt’s production. Released in 2012, the performance retells the folk romance of Sassi and Pannu. After Pannu’s brothers carry him back toward Balochistan, Sassi leaves Bhambore and crosses the desert in search of him. A contemporary account says Mithu chose the piece to foreground Sindhi language, culture, and literary heritage. The arrangement places the traditional melody inside a modern, funk-leaning groove, while its long, circling refrain retains the urgency of a folk plea. That tension between forward motion and repeated longing suits the story: Sassi keeps walking, calling, and refusing to abandon her search.
Meaning & Translation
The title Pere Pavandi Saan means “I will fall at your feet,” a promise of humility and pleading. In the song, Sassi begs for Pannu to remain for one night in Bhambore, then resolves to find him after he is taken away. Her journey across the desert also carries a Sufi meaning: the separated lover becomes a soul seeking union with the divine. Repetition turns longing into determination. Each appeal is more than romantic, because endurance, surrender, and faith become ways of moving through loss. Bhambore is therefore both a remembered home and the spiritual belonging that Sassi cannot stop pursuing.
