The Story Behind Sajna Ve Sajna (Live Performance)
This live version of Sajna Ve Sajna places Hadiqa Kiani's Udaari title song inside the Virsa Heritage Revived concert at Lahore's Haveli Barood Khana. Released as part of the 2018 live collection, it trades the original duet billing for Kiani alone and surrounds her with an acoustic ensemble: Baqir Abbas on flute, Steve George on guitar and baghlama, Asif Ali Goga on tabla, and Irfan Kiani and Imran Ali on harmoniums. Irfan Kiani also handled the arrangement, mix, mastering, and production. Communal handclaps and backing voices from Irfan, Ali, Raja, Amjad, and Dilawar give the performance a gathering-room warmth, while flute, tabla, and harmonium keep its Punjabi yearning close to folk tradition. It is a distinct concert reading, not a duplicate of the studio OST.
Meaning & Translation
Sajna ve sajna is an intimate Punjabi address: "beloved, oh beloved." The song turns that call into a plea to close the distance between two people in love. Its speaker is restless in separation and ready to move toward the beloved, so romance carries an ache of waiting as well as the promise of reunion. In this solo concert version, repeating the title feels less like a private exchange and more like an open declaration. The expansive live arrangement does not change the core idea: love has unsettled the heart, and the only imagined relief is nearness to the person being called.
