The Story Behind Iltija
Iltija is Josh's first television soundtrack, created for ARY Digital's 2017 serial Shiza. Band members Qurram Hussain and Rup Magon share the vocals, giving the title character's struggle a grief-heavy duet. The drama follows Shiza as she resists a family that treats her future as a bargain, and the song turns that conflict into an appeal for justice and release. Issued before the serial's premiere, its video alternates the band's performance with scenes from the drama and was directed by Sohail Javed. A beach setting gives the band's performance a stark visual frame. The restrained ballad pacing and intertwined voices match the story's sorrow without softening its anger.
Meaning & Translation
Iltija means an earnest plea or request in Urdu. The song gives that word the weight of someone who has suffered and is asking for both an explanation and a way forward. Its speaker imagines life as scattered and barren, then turns toward prayer, hoping that hidden light can return after betrayal and grief. That language mirrors Shiza's position in the drama: her own family has treated her choices as expendable, yet her voice has not disappeared. Rather than offering an easy rescue, the refrain keeps returning to the act of asking. The result is less a conventional love lament than an appeal for dignity, justice, and the strength to endure.
