The Story Behind Takabbur OST

Takabbur premiered on HUM TV on 31 December 2023, and the channel posted this lyrical cut of its title song two days later. Syed Adeel Ali of AD Studio composed it as a duet for Wajeeh Uddin Meer and Rose Mary, the latter already a familiar voice on the network after Neeli Zinda Hai, Mere Apne and Angna. Zaheer Zarf wrote the words, building them around the single phrase that gives the serial its name.

The drama itself, directed by Kashif Saleem and written by Seema Munaf for Moomal Productions and Momina Duraid Productions, sets an orphaned young woman down in a wealthy household where a privileged heir treats her refusal to flatter him as an affront. Pairing a male and a female voice puts both sides of that standoff inside one three minute song.

Meaning & Translation

Takabbur is the Urdu word, borrowed from Arabic, for arrogance: not ordinary confidence but the swollen kind of pride that looks down on other people. The song turns that word into an accusation. Its refrain, yeh takabbur tera, means simply this pride of yours, addressed to someone rather than described from a safe distance.

Scoring a serial whose whole conflict is one man's certainty that he is owed deference, the duet lands on the cost of that pride to whoever is standing beneath it. Two voices carry the line instead of one, which is why it reads less as a love song than as a reproach still hoping to be heard.
