The Story Behind Waada OST
Falak Shabbir wrote, composed and sang "Waada" as the title song for ARY Digital's 2016 serial of the same name. The first official ARY upload arrived in October 2016; the February 2017 lyric video indexed here presents the same recording. The song mirrors Samina Ejaz's domestic drama, where Sumaira (Shaista Lodhi) sees her marriage to Shahab (Faysal Quraishi) tested after Jaana (Saboor Aly) enters their home. A recurring promise motif gives the soundtrack its emotional center, linking the music to a story built around loyalty, betrayal and the price of trust. ARY's description also names Sikandar Khan as audio engineer, while Syed Atif Hussain directed the serial. Falak's solo authorship makes the theme feel unusually unified: one voice shapes its words, melody and performance.
Meaning & Translation
"Waada" means "promise" in Urdu. The song speaks from the perspective of someone trying to survive a lover's betrayal without abandoning his own commitment. He wants a message carried to the person who left: he is trying to put the past behind him, yet memory, tears and longing keep pulling him back. The central pain is not separation alone, but the contrast between one promise broken and another still being honored. Even in heartbreak, the narrator wishes the absent lover well, giving the lament tenderness instead of anger. The title becomes both an accusation and a measure of his fidelity, a reminder that keeping faith can hurt most when it is no longer returned.
