The Story Behind Yunhi OST

Yunhi OST is the title track of Hum TV's 2023 family drama Yunhi, and it carries an unusual credit line: Sami Khan wrote the words, composed the music, and then sang it himself alongside Shae Gill. Most OSTs split those three jobs between three people, so this one arrives with a single voice standing behind the lyric, the melody and half the vocal. Hum released it on 24 January 2023, twelve days ahead of the serial's 5 February premiere, giving the tune a running start with an audience already watching for Maya Ali's return to television after six years and Bilal Ashraf's television debut. Shae Gill came to it straight off Pasoori, and the song leans on the soft, unforced top of her range across a slow, unhurried duet. The serial ran 34 episodes to October 2023.

Meaning & Translation

Yunhi is one of those Urdu words that resists a tidy translation. It means just like that, casually, for no particular reason, the way a thing happens when nobody planned it. The song uses it as a shrug and a confession at once: the refrain, aa milay ho yunhi, is roughly you came and met me, just like that, and the whole lyric sits inside the wonder of that accident. There is no grand declaration here and no obstacle to be overcome. It is a song about noticing, some way in, that an ordinary meeting has quietly become the thing a life now turns on.
