About Ek Thi Marium
Ek Thi Marium is a biographical telefilm based on the true story of Marium Mukhtiar, the Pakistan Air Force officer who became the first woman in the country's history to be martyred in the line of duty as a fighter pilot. It traces her journey from an ordinary, ambitious young woman into the cockpit of a fighter jet, following the discipline, sacrifice, and quiet courage that carried her down a path few women had ever walked. The story builds toward the fateful 2015 training flight in which she and her instructor kept their failing aircraft aloft to steer it away from a populated area, a final act of duty that cost Marium her life. Written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, with Sanam Baloch in the title role, this Defence Day tribute is a moving portrait of patriotism, family, and a daughter who gave everything for her country.
Editor’s Take
Some stories matter more than the production around them, and this is one. Umera Ahmed, Sarmad Khoosat, and a fully committed Sanam Baloch, who trained with the Air Force for the part, treat Marium Mukhtiar's sacrifice with the reverence it deserves. Our only reservation is that a single telefilm can merely sketch a life this large, and the tribute sometimes leans more on emotion than on the woman behind the uniform. Still, essential and dignified viewing.
