About Ishq Hua

Tabrez (Haroon Kadwani) has grown up in the shadow of Bahaar, a feared gangster whose violent past is knotted tightly to his own. Hoping marriage might steer Bahaar toward a calmer life, Tabrez searches for a suitable bride and finds Minsa (Komal Meer), an orphaned young woman from a modest background who lives under the same powerful roof. The plan becomes dangerous when Tabrez and Minsa fall for each other, turning affection into a challenge to Bahaar's authority. Rukhsar (Sahar Hashmi), family loyalties and long-buried secrets add fresh pressure as the couple tries to choose love without being crushed by the world around them. Written by Nooran Makhdoom, Ishq Hua folds romance, action, humour and glossy gangster melodrama into a brisk nine-episode tale. Its heightened world is deliberately larger than life, but the heart of the story is simple: two young people attempting to claim a future that powerful forces have already decided for them.

Syed Wajahat Hussain gives this nine-episode romance the swagger of a Western, with dramatic lighting, vivid costumes and action that keeps the story clipping along. We enjoyed the humour and unapologetic masala. Our one gripe? Haroon Kadwani's limited range sometimes keeps Tabrez's emotional turmoil from matching the visual spectacle. Still, the compact run never lingers long enough for its pulpier turns to go stale. Slick, spirited, and best enjoyed with realism firmly switched off.
