About Mein Maa Nahin Banna Chahti
In a middle-class household where cousin marriages are treated as family tradition, Imaan (Rabab Hashim) and her cousin Maham become tangled in a rivalry around Jibran (Ali Abbas). Yet Imaan's heart lies with Faris (Imran Ashraf), the adopted son who works in her father's shop and is still treated by some relatives as an outsider. When family loyalty, class prejudice, and parental pressure close in, marriage stops looking like a private choice and becomes a test of obedience.
Written by Mustafa Hashmi from a story by Parisa Siddiqui, Mein Maa Nahin Banna Chahti uses its love triangle to question a harsher bargain: the demand that a wife prove her worth through motherhood, especially by producing a male heir. Rubina Ashraf and Nida Mumtaz anchor the older generation around a young woman forced to confront what custom can cost. It is a socially alert family drama with romance at the door and difficult questions waiting inside.
Editor’s Take
The bravest thing about Mein Maa Nahin Banna Chahti is its willingness to drag cousin-marriage pressure and the obsession with a male heir into a television family feud. We admire how the title challenges the idea that a woman's worth begins and ends with motherhood. Our one gripe? The storytelling can be repetitive, and some regressive turns blunt the very critique it wants to make. Still, few domestic dramas point their melodrama at such an urgent taboo.
