The Story Behind Chalawa OST
Released by HUM TV on 3 November 2020, Chalawa OST introduced the supernatural serial five days before its television premiere. Alycia Dias sings the title theme, with music by Syed Adeel Ali and words by S.K. Khalish. The song is built around the same unsettling idea that drives Shahid Nizami's drama: Sawera is followed by a malevolent presence that has haunted her family for generations. Directors Najaf Bilgrami and Shamoon Abbasi turn that premise into a world of possession, fear and uncertain loyalties, while the recurring image of a chalawa gives the refrain its sense of pursuit. Meaning & Translation
Chalawa is an Urdu word for a deceptive apparition, an illusion that seems real, or a supernatural presence that leads someone astray. In the song, it becomes the image of fear that refuses to leave. The narrator feels alone, unable to recognize the road ahead or find a moment of peace. Life appears like a puzzle in which trust, belonging and direction have been lost. The recurring chalawa is therefore both the drama's literal jinn and a metaphor for grief and uncertainty: something unseen follows every step, burns within the heart and makes even familiar relationships feel unsafe.
